Solution for Feedburner`s "Periscope simulated timeout expired"

If you use feedburner and recently started getting the "Periscope simulated timeout expired" error while trying to resync your feed with feedburner, I might have a solution for you - Yahoo Pipes.

You can republish your feed with Pipes and Feedburner seems to process those feeds without any problems. Just clone this pipe and enter your feed address instead of http://www.example.org/feed. After that you'll need to change the settings to tell feedburner to fetch your feed from Yahoo Pipes and not from your original feed. Use the "Get as RSS" link on your pipe page for that. That's it. You feed will start working again and your readers won't notice any changes.

I first posted an entry in English on my tumblr blog, basically translating Lithuanian version of this post, and only then realised you also had an English version of it.

I hope you don't mind. I've credited you.

I spent hours trying to get this to work. Thanks for solving my problem with this fairly simple work-around!!!!

Cheers,

One issue. I have decided to leave Feedburner altogether after applying this fix.

Unfortunately, when I go to delete my FB feed, using 30 day redirect, it wants to point to the Yahoo pipes feed and will not let me reset the source feed to the old, non-working address.

I am thinking I might be able to do a re-direct from the Pipe to the true address, but it is an additional complication I should have thought of before I used Pipes.

If you plan on leaving Feedburner and using their re-direct service, you want to hold off applying the Yahoo Pipes fix.

Anina, I don't know. I have never experienced this myself.

Indeed, I have the same problem as Anina, I also get the periscope issue when using Yahoo Pipes... It actually fixed the problem for a while, then came back just like before...

Any idea as to how to cope with this (very) weird problem?
